CCAPP (Citizens Concerned About Plastic Pollution) believes that as individuals and as a community we can do a lot. Working in Ulster County, NY CCAPP’s goal is to encourage action to reduce use and limit production of single-use plastic.

Our Mission

  • Educate ourselves and others about the dangers to the climate and to health associated with single-use plastics and work together to find viable alternatives.

  • Involve the public in positive actions to reduce and ultimately eliminate the use and production of single-use plastics.

  • Collaborate with other organizations that share the same goals.

  • Support legislation aimed at limiting or curtailing the production and distribution of plastic at county, state and national levels

About Plastic Pollution

  • Climate Change

Plastics are made with petrochemicals -- compounds using natural gas or petroleum including benzene, ethylene, methanol, propylene – all greenhouse gases devastating to a warming climate. The U.S. plastics industry, already the world's largest, aims to triple plastic production in the coming decades as their Plan B against the declining use of fossil fuels.

  • Environment

Plastic waste in oceans, rivers and streams is destroying aquatic wildlife and is projected to outnumber all fish in the future. Landfills are overtaxed by plastic waste. Discarded plastic piles up on beaches and fills waterways.

    Human Health

Microplastics have now been found in human blood, lung tissue, colons, placentas, stool, and breast milk as the tiny particles travel via food, water, and the air we breathe.

But it’s not just their physical presence that poses a threat to our health. Long term exposure to plastic chemicals can result in endocrine function disruption. Plastics are a vehicle for delivering toxic chemicals into the body.
